School’s out for the summer!

The boys and I finished our third year of homeschooling on May 17!  We celebrated with dinner at Rocky’s Chicken Shack, the kids’ current favorite restaurant because chicken and waffles are just plain fun.

Ten days later, Abby and Caleb wrapped up their preschool year.

With Ms. Heather, the teacher Caleb really latched on to.  He grew to love preschool.
(He’s only upset here because I delayed picking him up to snap the picture.  Bad mom!)

Ms. Heather and Ms. Rhonda are saints!  The class had 10 children ages 18-24 months, and they led them in all sorts of wonderful activities (art, music, chapel, water play, etc.).  They always seemed relaxed and clearly enjoy the littlest ones.

Abby participated in a PreK graduation and blessing ceremony.  She will miss her friends and teachers very much.  Preschool + Abby were a match made in heaven!

Abby told the audience that her favorite thing about PreK was
“the book center and playing with Fern at the play dough center.”

I’ll summarize my thoughts on homeschooling in a separate post.  To cut to the chase, we are homeschooling again next year: Ryan – 5th, Miles – 2nd, and Abby – K.  Caleb will continue to go to preschool two mornings a week.

I hope our summer will be filled with the pool, parks, VBS, art camp, and outings to local favorites.  We’ll have our week at the beach as usual, and mid-July we are thrilled to be helping my mom move into a home of her own.  We’ll take a break from anything remotely academic.  I know many families who continue to review math or practice handwriting, but we need a true break.

Happy summer, everyone!
