We jumped at the chance for Miles to join a LEGO robotics team this fall. This local team was started by a father from our homeschool co-op, and Paul became the assistant after the first meeting. He was as excited to play with robots as the kids were! They were a young team made up of 3rd-5th graders and ended up competing against kids as old as 8th grade.
After three months of programming their robot and preparing several presentations for the judges, they spent a Saturday in Cullowhee, NC for the regional competition. They went in with the goals of 1) not being disqualified, 2) having their robot perform as expected on at least one run, 3) learning about the judges’ expectations for future competitions, and 4) having fun. They accomplished all of their goals, thrilling kids and parents alike!
Only two members were allowed to control the robot during each run.
You can click here to see a video of their best run out of three. The Engibots are on the right side of the table. They’ll spend this winter and spring continuing to practice programming so they will be ready when the new challenge is released next fall!
