On his tenth birthday, Miles awoke to his family presents and a French toast breakfast. Then it was off to the pool!
His first presents of the day! A great start!
A major summer birthday perk!
After the pool, it was time to set up our first socially distanced party!
Corona-free cupcakes for the guests!
Thank goodness the afternoon storms dissipated, and Paul thought of box fans!
Tacos with a side of hand sanitizer
As if this party wasn’t 2020 enough, we used Zoom to attend Mark’s virtual drop-in birthday party!
Great idea, Ne’Kia!
Miles’ favorites at the moment are his bike (hence the party decor), his guitar, and his cameras. We love listening to him learn songs by ear or strum along to songs on the radio. He is quite comfortable moving at his own pace and doing what he prefers, even if it means he goes it alone. He will refer to books, manuals, or experts only as a last resort!
Recently, I have been impressed with his confidence as he interacts with friends or neighborhood acquaintances. He does not hesitate to call out someone who is doing something wrong, dangerous, or unkind. He continues to have a sensitive spirit – any living creature that is hurting will bring out in a Miles a fierce determination to help coupled with sincere sympathy.
Right now, Miles dreams of being a musician while working alongside his daddy in the IT department at Biltmore Estate “to pay the bills.” He simultaneously wants to live at the beach, but Miles has never let the details hold him back!
I only have a few favorite quotes from the year (my bad), but they each are so revealing about Miles:
~ His vocabulary: “Abby, stop glowering at me!”
~ His bluntness: “I’m glad I am good at eavesdropping!”
~ His laid back approach to life: “It’s only one off. Not too bad.” (said while correcting a math problem)
