Visit from CA

In mid-August, Paul’s brother David visited from California with his daughters, Marissa and Alanna.  Although I had met David before, I had not yet met his daughters.  It was wonderful to finally get to know them a little bit.  They were both very sweet and warmed up quickly to all of us strangers.  Paul’s parents planned a variety of outdoor activities highlighting the mountains and two big family dinners.

One day Paul and the boys joined in for a brand-new activity for our family: Asheville Treetops Adventure.  It was a series of ropes courses, two of which were approved for children under 6.  After some initial hesitation, Ryan caught on and loved it.  Paul came home raving about how brave Ryan was.  Unfortunately, Miles was terrified.  It sounded good in theory, but as soon as he got started, he became almost inconsolable.  Paul managed to carry him through the course in order to return him to solid ground.  Miles was content to spend the remainder of the afternoon with Papa, documenting everybody else’s climbing.

The next day, Paul had to return to work, but the kids and I joined the family for a hike to Moore Cove Falls.  It was another beautiful day, and everybody had a great time.

I wish we weren’t separated by so many miles, but we sure made the most of the time they were here.  Thanks for being willing to travel so far!
