Septembering

I came across this term on a blog and absolutely love it!  September is such a unique month, especially for those with children.  While some (like the author of that entry) view it as a bit of downer, our Septembering has felt like a much-needed reboot.

September allowed us to develop a routine and see some of our new survival strategies begin to pay off.  My nausea has continued to lessen, meaning my family enjoyed many home-cooked meals and a faster turn-around time for their laundry.  We did not visit the Urgent Care a single time and, with the exception of croup for Abby, we have been healthy.  This month broke some records!

Make hay while the sun shines!” comes to mind.  And boy, did we!  Paul worked hard on the yard, catching up on months of weeding and pruning.  I purged toys, sorted through piles of hand-me-downs to assemble fall wardrobes for the kids, and finally finished our homeschool room.  We passed along several big pieces of furniture we were no longer using and hung pictures that had been sitting around for a year.  Our trip to Disney was rescheduled for (*fingers crossed*) October.  It felt exciting, encouraging, and, yes, exhausting.  It’s not a pace we want to keep up, but we were grateful for the time and energy to do what needed to be done.

For the kids, it was school work and the start-up of various classes.  Abby mastered using the potty.  We took our first field trip to the apple orchard and welcomed our friends the Breedloves for an overnight.  As the temperatures improved, there were many park play dates, and the boys spent hours riding their bikes (no more training wheels!).

And last, but not least, I reached the halfway point of this pregnancy!  Yesterday, we took the boys to our ultrasound appointment.  It is simply amazing to watch this miniature, fully formed person - yawning, kicking, flipping, swallowing, and grasping at toes.  I love that I can feel most of those movements now, too!
