Caleb is now 3 months old! Paul and I agree it feels fast and slow all at the same time, which is a common feeling (for us anyway) with each of our children.
Our littlest guy is getting increasingly alert, staying awake for longer periods of time, and “talking” loudly. He discovered his hands in early May and is making regular efforts to get them into his mouth. Maybe we have another thumb sucker on our hands (haha)? He has started batting at toys when they are dangled above him. While he has rolled from front to back two times now, I believe both instances were the result of luck rather than effort. However, that milestone is certainly getting close!
Here’s what we know about Caleb so far:
~ Caleb is very social. He makes intense eye contact for long periods of time, and the voices of his siblings produce a full-body response.
~ He does not like change. Weaning him from the swaddle last week was a challenge, and he gets cranky with changes in his routine (This last trait can be blamed on both of his parents. We get it.)
~ On the other hand, events like baths, nail clipping, head shaving, etc. do not seem to phase him.
~ Eating is not a priority. He takes a looooonnngggg time to finish his bottle and often has to be woken up to eat. This was evident straight from the womb, where he showed absolutely zero interest in nursing. Even the doctors were a bit amazed. Of course, I keep him on a schedule so he is no danger of starving himself to death!
(Side note: The oft-quoted advice, “If the baby was hungry, he wouldn’t be sleeping,” and “Never wake a sleeping baby” are ridiculous. Both Ryan and Caleb destroyed these myths in their own way!)
~ He adores his daddy. Paul gets the best smiles and settles him the quickest. It’s wonderful.
So much fun lies ahead for our Caleb!
