Every single day Miles says, “I am so glad Caleb is in our family!” This from the kid who originally said that three children in one family was already “too much.” Clearly, we’ve fallen in love and wouldn’t want our family any other way. I believe you treasure these early years more and more with each baby. Experience has taught you as the parents how quickly time passes, and you have the added joy of watching the older siblings delight in the newest addition. There is nothing like it!
Caleb continues to be snuggly and outgoing. He wants to be in the thick of things, preferably observing from somebody’s arms. He basks in the admiration that he receives everywhere he goes and bestows radiant smiles on all. No fear of strangers has emerged yet. He pays very close attention to books. Favorites so far are Baby Listens, I Am a Bunny, and any book with textures to feel or flaps to open. He can go from sobbing to silence in seconds when you settle down with a book. We have, however, uncovered his temper and very strong will (a true mystery in this family). When he is really riled up, he will hold his breath until he nearly passes out! I have heard of this phenomenon and blame his Nana K from whom he probably inherited it.
Even at a year of age, he is much more unpredictable than any of my other babies. One time he might tag along happily on a field trip, and the next he might fuss nonstop. His sleep is still a daily surprise – Will he nap? For how long? Will he cry for a bit at the 45 minute mark and then fall back to sleep? Will he sleep through the night tonight? Frequent illness and ear infections are certainly contributing factors. Being the fourth does have its very real challenges!
The local family gathered together for a sweet first birthday party. We ordered in pizza, I made a salad, and we finished with store bought (gasp!) cupcakes. It was a wonderful evening, and, in my not so humble opinion, Caleb was ADORABLE.
After a quick bath and outfit change, it was present opening time. He enjoyed that much more!

How we love you, Caleb Graham! We are so thankful that God knew what
our family was missing and needed the most…you!
