(Pictures are in birth order: Ryan, Miles, Abby, and Caleb.)
A few observations about Caleb at 4 months:
1. I think Ryan wins the look-a-like contest this month. Miles won at 2 months.
2. Ryan and Miles were both underweight at this age due to severe acid reflux. The outfit Miles is wearing in his picture Caleb outgrew at least 6-8 weeks ago. We’ll have confirmation at Caleb’s well visit in a few weeks, but I suspect he is not underweight!
3. Both boys were rolling over from front to back quite well at 4 months. (Abby might have been, but those stats are recorded on a post-it note that is inaccessible at the moment. Ahem.) Caleb is not. Refer to #2 for the likely reason why.
4. Caleb is, however, grasping toys, clothes, dinner plates, bottles, etc. quite well. He continues to be highly social and has even shown signs of stranger anxiety (which is “advanced” for his age).
5. His baby temperament is most reminiscent of Ryan (minus the colic, thank goodness): very alert, distractible while eating, light sleeper, and busy. He loves, loves, loves his jumperoo and play mat.
6. Because of his light sleeping, he is back in the swaddle during the day. When daytime naps shortened to 15-30 minute catnaps, I reached the point of desperation and defeat. We’ll try to wean him off again next month.
